UpWe can’t wait for the new Pixar animation to come to our screens in October – UP.

It tells the story of a young Carl Fredrickson who meets a young adventure spirited girl named Ellie. They both dream of going to a Lost Land in South America. It goes forward 70 years later, when Ellie has died. Carl remembers the promise he made to her to go to South America to explore a lost land. Then, when he inadvertently hits a construction worker, he is forced to go to a retirement home, he is seen as the typical grumpy old man who lives in a house on his own. But before they can take him, he and his house fly away via thousands of balloons. However he has a stowaway aboard, an 8 year old boy named Russell, who has been trying to get an assisting the elderly badge. Together, they embark on an adventure, where they encounter talking dogs, an evil villain and a rare bird named Kevin.

Apparently there were many influences that were poured into the character of Carl – the grouchy, set in his ways old man. From Hollywood greats such as Spencer Tracy and Walter Matthau who were among the actors that the team studied, and they also watched home-movie footage and brought stories about their own grandparents together. Up is also Pixar’s first attempt to make a story that works in the digital 3D style, and while the company appears to be embracing the technology wholesale - retro-fitting their back catalogue, including Toy Story, with the new tech - the team are very wary of gimmickry. So don’t worry all this new technology flying around at the moment won’t effect the greatness that is Pixar.

Looking forward to watching Up – sure to be another Pixar classic!
