For every kid who fears his or her stepfather, here is a film for you!

The Stepfather is a remake of the 1987 feature film, and an adaptation of the 1958 crime novel by Charlotte Jay.

Expected to hit our big screens over the next few weeks, the film is a crime thriller about a  psychotic stepfather who marries into a new family.

The movie begins by introducing us to the main protagonist, Michael Harding, (Penn Badgley), who returns home from military school to find his mother Susan (Sela Ward), happily in love with a man known as David Harris (Dylan Walsh).

Everything seems perfect at first, the kids love him, and the wife does too, but there seems to be something rotten lingering around him.

Michael is quick to pick up on this, and when a segment of America’s Most Wanted reveals an image of striking resemblance to David, the mystery behind the man who is believed to have killed off may past families.

In a gripping finale, Michael acts swiftly in an attempt to save what is left of his family.

The film is directed by Nelson McCormick and has already been out for some months in the US, where it has received mixed reviews.

While the plot is intriguing and captivating, it lets itself down with some pretty average active, and plot narration.

All in all, The Stepfather is a typical horror/thriller film, which could have gone that further distance, but didn’t.
