Tim Burton’s latest is his adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. And from the teaser trailer that has just been released it looks like it’s going to be another Burton masterpiece. If there was ever a story made for a Burton adaptation then this would be it.

The cast list looks like a who’s who of acting: Jonny Depp as The Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as The Red Queen, Alan Rickman as The Catepillar, Anne Hathaway as The White Queen, Stephen Fry as The Cheshire Cat, Matt Lucas as Tweedledum and Tweedledee, Christopher Lee as The Jabberwock, Timothy Spall as The Bloodhound and even Carry On legend Barbara Windsor as The Dormouse!

Burton will work his unique magic and style over one of the best loved stories of all time. It’ll be Depp’s 7th outing with the director and Helena Bonham Carter’s 6th. We all know the original story or at least Disney’s version: A young girl falls down a hole after chasing a white rabbit into a strange, even psychedelic world.

This modern version is sure to have a few twists and turns: Alice, 17, attends a party at a Victorian estate only to find she is about to be proposed to in front of hundreds of snooty society types. Off she runs, following a white rabbit into a hole and ending up in Wonderland, a place she visited 10 years before yet doesn’t remember.

There is the usual Burton-esque ghoulishness (Helena Bonham Carter’s Red Queen, whose favourite quip is “off with their heads,” has a moat filled with bobbing heads), beautifully quirky costumes, mind boggling special effects, humour and I hope that there will be that Burton-heart wrenching twist at the end? I can’t wait!!
