After a number of unsuccessful relationships, morning show producer Abby (Katherine Heigl) is challenged by her correspondent, Mike (Gerard Butler) to participate in a serious of tests to prove his theories on romance. His clever ploys, although chauvinistic, lead to an unexpected result and help her find love.

London gangster Lenny Cole finds himself in a pickle when a wealthy foreign mob moves into his territory. Meanwhile, a small-time gang leader (Gerard Butler) thinks he and his crew can play both sides and make their way up the ladder. Throughout the story the mobsters encounter a rag-tag range of criminals including a dodgy accountant (Thandie Newton), a once-famous rock and roll star faking his own dead for a quick sales booster and a range of other characters with equal measures of money and muscle.
