Set in the late 1980s, young James (Jesse Eisenberg) hopes to travel to Europe before commencing his studies at a New York Ivy League school, but must take up a summer job if he is to to be able to afford the trip. He ends up working a decrepit local amusement park, Adventureland, where he falls hopelessly for his co-worker, Emily Lewin (Kristen Stewart). Over the course of the summer James learns a lot about life, love and trust within the bizarre workplace.
