Thousands of screaming fans turned up this Wednesday to experience the Twilight of the year, with the much-anticipated sequel to the vampire-teen series finally screening in Australia.
After the massive success of the original film, Twilight, the follow up, New Moon, took place on the big screens across the country, much to the satisfaction of the mostly female dominated crowd.
After the red carpet world premiere in Las Angeles two nights ago, in which crowds flocked to catch a glimpse of the teen heartthrob, Rob Pattinson, Aussie fans had to wait until midnight last night to catch the film.
It has not been since the Matrix trilogy where a film has received so much public attention worldwide.
The Stephanie Meyer novels have been a huge hit with readers for quite some time, but it has been the adaptation of the tales into the film format, which has seen the explosion of success.
In Sydney, George St was shut off due to over packed crowds at the Greater Union cinema, which welcomed a sea of fans carrying banners, wearing character costumes, and some even donning freshly inked tattoos of their favourite film.
It was 3am this morning when the majority of fans across the nation streamed out of cinemas, content with what they witnessed.
20-year-old, Kate Madden, from the Sydney suburbs was one of them.
“It was excellent,” she said.
“The hot guys were probably the best part.”
However, not all fans were in awe of the film.
One fan, Sarah Wilkes, thought New Moon failed to live up to the hugely successful book series the movie is based on.
“I was slightly disappointed. It wasn’t as good as the book. They jumped from one thing to another,” she said.
