Saw VI might be doing the rounds in the cinemas around the globe, but another Saw has been quietly making it mark on the video game market.
The Saw Video game was released in the past few months for game play on Xbox 360, PS3 and personal computers.
There have been many question marks over the ability to transform the torture-filled films into the gaming format, and the ability to do so while maintaining the franchise’s themes.
On the flip side, it is surprising we have waited so long for the release to come, especially considering it is films that have a large say on new video game releases.
The game begins in the familiar surroundings to anyone who has seen one of the Saw films.
A victim wakes up in a dark, mould filled brick room, bound to a chair, fighting for their life.
As predicated, Jigsaw then comes onto a TV screen, giving his spiel on why the main character, Detective Tapp, is in the situation he is in.
Tapp is a policeman who has bee trying to track down Jigsaw since his first crime.
The basic game play of Saw is broken into two parts – puzzle solving and combat.
The former is the game’s main focus and, to be honest, it’s also its most rewarding aspect.
As Tapp makes his way through the Asylum he comes across a series of victims who are connected in some way to either himself or the Jigsaw case he was working on.
They’re each trapped in an elaborate puzzle, which he has to solve in order to prevent them from dying.
In the true spirit of the movies, the Saw video game really does feel like a real life Jigsaw experiment, where people are torturously killed, and where investigation skills are critical.
Many may be over the films, but Saw: the video game may have a few more releases left in it.
