Without a doubt the movie of the year is a clear hands-down winner……

Avatar takes the cake from pure daylight, and then more daylight, and then a toss up between a bunch of movies including Gran Torino, Slumdog Millionaire and a few others.

There are a few reasons why the movie has drawn such attention.

For one, the blockbuster is directed by the much popular James Cameron, who is well known for his work with Titanic, True Lies and Terminator: Judgment Day.

Secondly, he has not directed a feature film since the Titanic and each year that has passed by, the fans have cried louder for him to come out of his self-imposed break from the industry.

And lastly, Avatar was made with a budget in excess of 200 million dollars, and for the record, is the most expensive film ever made.

For those who have seen the movie, they will understand why it has generated so much publicity, but for those who have not, they really need to see it to believe the hype.

Set in 2152 the film is based on an outer space planet named Pandora.

After the human race depleted all of mother earth’s resources, they travel to the new planet to find what they can salvage to create a new life.

But they encounter many problems along their journey including a war between themselves and the blue new-race on the planet.

Avatar is screening now in cinemas around Australia.
