This weekend saw the Spike TV Scream Awards in Los Angeles.
Best Sci-Fi Actress went surprisingly to Megan Fox for her role in Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen. The 23 year-old, Tennessee-born star graciously thanked fans for voting for her, despite previously claiming she didn’t think much of her acting in the Transformers movies. Earlier this year, she said: ‘Unless you’re a seasoned veteran, working with (director) Michael Bay is not about an acting experience. ‘I can’t s**t on this movie because it did give me a career and open all these doors for me. But I don’t want to blow smoke up people’s a*s. People are well aware that this is not a movie about acting.’
But the big surprise of the night was William Shatner coming on stage to accept the Best Sci-Fi Film for Star Trek – despite being snubbed for a role in the blockbuster. Addressing the film’s director JJ Abrams – who also won Best Director – he said: ‘J.J., I’ll handle this. ‘This movie was big. Imagine how big it could have been with me in it? … I’ll be waiting for your call.’
The big winners at last night’s ceremony were teen romance Twilight and TV show True Blood. True Blood took home four trophies, including Best TV Show, Best Villain for Alexander Skarsgard and Best Horror Actor and Actress for real-life couple Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin. Twilight also won four categories, including Best Fantasy Actor and Actress for Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart – who were absent – Best Fantasy Film and Best Breakout Male Performance for teen heart-throb Taylor Lautner.
