Australian cinema has been struggling in the past few decades, but that doesn’t stop it from releasing a few gems from time to time.
Bran Nue Dae is a prefect example of this trend.
The new Aussie flick is expected to make its release onto cinemas around the county early next year, and from what we have seen so far, it is a fine display of what our movies should be like.
The film is a story about a young indigenous school boy who has a dream of venturing to Broome, where he envisages a lifestyle of fishing with mates, spending time with his girl, and soaking up the perfect climate.
Set in the year 1969, the main character Willie (Rocky McKenzie), goes against his others wish of becoming a priest and chooses the party lifestyle that Broome offers as his new dream.
Along his journey his eye is caught by Rosie (former Australian Idol runner-up Jessica Mauboy), an aspiring singer who has also caught the eye of local band leader Lester (Dan Sultan).
From here we enter a typical road-trip style movie, with an Australian influence.
The majority of the trip will center around Will and his uncle Tadpole (Ernie Dingo), who team up with an uptight German hippie (Tom Budge) and his spiritually wide-eyed girlfriend (Missy Higgins).
Bran Nue Dae really is a great idea for a movie and is executed with precision, and care, that is often overlooked in our films.
Boasted by a start studded line up which also include Academy Award winning actor, Geoffrey Rush, the movie is set to do well next year when it is released.
