The makers of The Day After Tomorrow and Independence Day are back with yet another blockbuster, end of the world thriller.

2012 is the newest addition to director Roland Emmerich’s CV, a film about a global doomsday event in the year 2012.

Movies like these are quite simple in its plot, but it is in the digital effects and action packed scenes where the movie wins its fans over.

The basic plot of the movie takes us to December 2010 and in accordance with the Mayan Calendar, the world will end.

It introduces viewers to the main character Jackson Curtis, played by John Cusack, who is a divorced father who occasionally works as a limousine driver and a writer.

His ex-wife and children live together with her new boyfriend. Meanwhile, In Guatemala, reports start coming in of large group suicides around the Mayan jungles of people attempting to avoid the impending apocalypse.

From here we are taken on a heroic family journey where one group of people stand tall against adversary and save the day for humanity.

As with all blockbuster, world ending, films, viewers are taken on an emotional rollercoaster ride of fear, fun, excitement and anticipation.

The film was originally scheduled to be released on July 10, 2009 but was changed to November 12, 2009 to move out of the busy summer schedule into a time frame that the studio considered to have more potential for financial success.

2012 will give viewers what they expect, a heroic journey into another end-of-the-world disaster.

At times it can be cringe-worthy, other times it can be amazing.
